Does It Matter Where I Get My Security Guard Permit From?
I am looking in to becoming security guard here in Chicago. I’ve researched online different places that offer the permit here in Chicago. My question is, is receiving my permit from any company ok. Is there any advantage getting my permit from one company from the other? For example if, you went to an average college vs. an ivory league college. Just wondering is it like this or it doesn’t matter what company I get my permit from.

Here in NJ, anyone working in security must get a license under the SORA (Security Officer Registration Act). It requires applicants to get fingerprinted by the state police, then enroll in a class (24 hrs).
The instructors for these classes must be approved by the state police. The curriculum is exactly the same, regardless which instructor (or “school”) you attend. The license is not granted by the school itself, but by the state police after completing the program.
Therefore, it does not matter which school you attend or which instructor you are taught by, as long as the school and instructor are approved by whatever laws and regulations that apply to security guard training.
