How Do I Fix My Directx?

lots of my games wont work because something is wrong with my directx. when i go into dxdiag, it wont let me turn on hardware acceleration and those other things because my WHQL certificates arnt verified. But i downloaded directx from the microsoft website, and i have the latest version. Also when i install directx aug update, what is the folder i should install into?
