How Safe Is My Pc On The Internet?
When my wife and I first got our PC, we delayed getting it hooked up to the internet. Now that’s hooked up I am really enjoying it. However, I have some files on there that I don’t want others hacking into. I have heard about spyware and I even found a spyware software added to my PC. It could be the spyware protection so I have to call McAfee. Anyway, I deleted all my personal files but not sure if some hacker can still go in to my PC via the internet and scan the deleted files. McAfee says they have some way to clean the PC of deleted files. I am even afraid to trade my PC in for fear of some strangers hacking into my personal information. Do I need to buy a new PC and bury the old PC in the ground to be safe?

1st: get a copy of McAffee Clean Sweep or equivalent. Deleted files just get the address wiped out. The file is still there unless you write over it, which Clean Sweep does. Also, when you go on the internet, sites place “Cookies” on your PC, which by definition are text files placed on your HD without your knowledge or permission. Unfortunately, our court system is not up on these facts, and have held you are responsible for anything found on your computer. Again, Clean Sweep will clean cookies and registers.
2nd: install spyware. Make sure your firewall is on. This will stop alot, but not all intrusions.
3rd:Never keep personal info on your Hard Drive. Use an USB drive or other removable storage device. Hackers can enter any computer and look at your files, change them, etc. Remove the file storage before going on the internet.
4th: I recommend formating the Hard Drive and reinstalling your OS and programs every 6 months. It will improve efficiency, remove unwanted trojans and spyware.
