Is Applying For A Transunion Security Freeze Online Safe? Need Info Asap.?
my mailbox was compromised yesterday and i know that important mailed documents were inside…probably containing my SSN.
i want to place a Security Freeze on my file asap and Transunion is the only one that offers a fast online application for this. but THEY ask for my SSN! is it safe to provide this info to Transunion via the internet, or should cross my fingers that doing this by mail will be speedy enough to prevent someone from using my personal info as their own?

If you put a freeze on the account, you can not even request your own credit report. You can however put it on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They will notify the other 2 bureaus and must be renewed every 90 days in order to keep it active. What will happen then if someone tries to apply for credit with your info, you will be notified immediately of the fraud.
