Online Transactions? Who Or What Is Responsible For Security?

Posted by Conversion Expert | Online Security | Monday 16 November 2009 5:51 am

I am a visual artist wishing to have my own website where people can buy my artwork directly from my business, wholesale.
I have little understanding of how websites even work or how secure they can be concerning issues of online transaction, money, credit cards,…etc.
Do I, as the business owner need a really good computer with the best anti-spy or virus software? or do online transactions go through the web-hoster and the web-hoster is responsible the security of money transactions?
I just want to protect and insure costumers that my website is %100 secure. I also need to protect my business. How dose online transactions work? Do the transactions go directly into your business’s bank account?
IF anyone has any suggestions or knowledge, it would a great help.

    Hello.
You first need a SAFE Web browser.. I do not recommend IE. I recommend OPERA even over firefox.
Also, get a free website advisor which will make sure the site you are on is legit and is not a scam.
    I recommend mcafee site advisor.
If you do not have a security program let me make some suggestions…
I have used almost all security programs that are available and Ive came to the conlusion that the best one by far is Windows Live Onecare.
    ★Protects against Virus and Spyware
★Pc Tuneup to make your computer faster
    ★BackUp and Restores your computer
You can get Windows Live OneCare on this site FREE FIR 3 MONTHS!!!http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/d…
★I should tell you that people will give me thumbs down for Recommending onecare because they like to bash anything microsoft. Trust me..its the best.
IF YOU MUST CHOOSE A FREE ANTIVIRUS PLEASE TRY PC TOOLS http://www.pctools.com
★Good Luck. Feel Free To Contact Me If You Need Anymore Help. You May Do So By Email Via My Profile Page.

As the business owner of the website, you are responsible for protecting online transactions when customers do business with you. If you are accepting credit card payments you must be Payment Card Industry compliant (PCI):
    https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/security_standards/pci_dss.shtml
    https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/saq/index.shtml
As a small business, when you sign-up to be a merchant and accept credit cards, your acquiring bank will assist you with this. Most hosting providers, like Yahoo, will host the whole transaction and maintain their own compliance, so they can guide you through the process, but ultimately the business is responsible.
