What Is A Vpn Connection? I Need To Safeguard My Online Banking After A Recent Security Leak?
Hi there
Not being an individual to act before he thinks, i have yet to purchase any kind of protection i need on my system after a recent security leak arising from my online banking. I need security and recently heard of a thing called a VPN connection. Now i have no idea what this is.
Can anyone explain to me what it is and if you use one yourself, does it work effectively?
I read somewhere about it being some kind of a connection but i was thinking if i had one of these VPN things, wouldn’t your ISP know that you weren’t using one of their connections to access the net (i.e because there is this other connection to the internet)?
I am not willing to be exposed to another online banking attack for the obvious reasons and so reading about a VPN made me curious to find out more.
Can anyone help me with descriptions, effectiveness etc?

A VPN only works if you have set up a VPN server at the receiving site. I am sure no web site administrator is going to let you do that to their site, especially if you are so careless as to not run any security on your machine. If you persist in connecting to the internet without security you will get spyware and virus infections, your personal details will become public and you will have even more trouble. If you install a decent anti-spyware and anti-virus program, and watch what you are doing when you browse, this is all the security you need.
