What Will Happen If Someone Steals Your Social Security Number?

I’m trying to apply for jobs online, and most of them require social security. So I’m wondering, what if it’s a scam to steal your social security, what could they use it for?

There should be no need to give your SSN at least until you have had an interview. I have never given my SSN to any potential employer until they are are at the point of offering me the job. If it is a scam, they will get credit in your name and ruin your credit history.

It can be sold to an illegal worker and they will give you more social security.

Fake ID, birth certificates, access to private information, etc. The sky is the limit.
